Introduction - Competency Based Assessment (CBA)
Rationale:
Competency based assessment’s focus is on the learner and learning and not the teacher and what is taught. It calls for the use of authentic tasks-real life situations that are mainly assessed by formative assessment; Formative assessment defines, signals and prompts students’ learning. However in the current system teachers tend to use more summative than formative assessments. Teachers as facilitators of CBC will be required to apply both formative and summative assessment but use more of formative assessment. In this session, participants will be introduced to competency based assessment that entails mainly the use of formative assessment.
